The next day we did as originally planned and drove to Lassen Volcanic National Park, again, with better planning I would have realized the park is pretty much snowed in! The visitor center opened at 9 am. I decided not to wait, as Lambert isn’t allowed in the visitor center. We took in some vistas, snapped a few photos and headed out of the mountains. We met some people that were about to start snowshoeing and some that were getting their skis on for a run. I didn’t ask, but, are they going to hike back up and do it again? Impressive!!

my attempt at being artsy!!

I wanted to stay off I-5, I keep thinking I will stumble on this perfect, quaint little town and we will have lunch and wander. This hasn’t happened yet, but maybe I haven’t given one a chance. I spot a nice park off the highway in Chico. Lambert is ready for a walk, so we wander the park and enjoy the sunshine and a snack. Then back to the van (ands cell service) to find a place to stay. I chose a KOA in Oroville, it has to be better that last night! I decide to book two nights. It is nice, clean , concrete with dog parks, showers, laundry and the sun is shinning!

Lambert really liked the dog parks at Oroville!
Reflecting on the short journey so far, I begin to realize, that I am not really making this a ‘journey’. I am going from place to place to place, why? This is not a race, I have no one besides Lambert, that expects anything from me. It Is time to slow down, maybe spend more time in one location, drive less between stops; truly my next commitment is to be in Boston on July 17, that’s more than two months!
Some observations – maybe some weird ones!
Why so many storage units? In the most obscure areas, small towns, random highways, what is being stored?
Cattle crossing & free range area signs? I get it, there’s a lot of land, let the animals have some freedom, but I have yet to see any that are wandering near the highways.

Not to knock any religion, but there seems to be a plethora of Jehovah Witness churches, especially in the outlying areas.
Just a couple of recent observations!
I’m catching up on your blog. This is really cool that you are doing it! I have thought of buying a van and traveling so this is fun to see how it’s going for you.
I really like your random observations. What is in the storage units…hum.
Ok, gonna read the next one.
Well, when I return maybe you can take mine out for a test weekend!!
